EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

LEOSFA Continually strives to improve the efficiency and profitability of both band saw and circle saw operations through a variety of educational programs, among them:

  • An informative Newsletter. Published quarterly, the newsletter contains detailed technical information or sawmill operation, maintenance, business management and safety. It also provides a calendar of forest industry courses and meetings.

  • Intensive one to two-week hands on Courses that teach such skills as saw hammering, hardwood grade sawing on an automatic mill, mill alignment and troubleshooting.

  • One or two-day Workshops, focusing on such topics as mill alignment and maintenance, saw welding, chipper maintenance, and troubleshooting.

    Workshops that have been offered :

  • Stretcher Roll Maintenance. held at Deer Park Lumber Company in Tunkhannock PA (February 8, 2003)
  • Filing Room Maintenance workshop. held at Cummings Lumber Company in Troy, PA (March 10, 2001)
  • Intro to Bandsaw Filing Course - Held at Deer Park Lumber in Tunkhannock, PA (July 29, 2000)

       In addition to its scheduled activities the Association is available to answer, by e-mail, any questions that members may have. We also maintain an extensive lending library for the exclusive use of our members.
